Israel slammed the United Nations’ Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for its “off the mark” priorities and its “politicized debates, biased resolutions, preposterous reports, discriminatory conduct and unfounded accusations” against Israel.
Speaking at the conclusion of the UNHRC’s 32nd session on Tuesday, Ambassador Eviatar Manor, Permanent Representative of Israel to the UN in Geneva, said the Council could not be taken seriously because the council’s agenda “specifically prioritizes Israel when the tragedies of Syria, Yemen, Iraq, Libya, to name but a few, are unfolding and producing a Tsunami of refugees about to engulf Europe,” which are ignored by the council.
“This Council’s priorities are wide off the mark,” Manor noted.
He accused the UNHRC of “politicized debates, biased resolutions, preposterous reports, discriminatory conduct and unfounded accusations” that “characterize the attitude of this Council and of the OHCHR (Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights) towards Israel.”
To demonstrate the bias, Manor noted that following a terror attack in which two Palestinian terrorists murdered four Israelis and wounded dozens in Tel Aviv last week, the OHCHR expressed “deep concern” over the cancellation of 83,000 permits granted to Palestinian to travel to Israel during Ramadan which were revoked in wake of the attack. The UNHRC characterized the move as “amounting to prohibited collective punishment.”
“The right to regulate entry of non-citizens into a country is an integral part of sovereignty which all states enjoy,” Manor pointed out. “Furthermore, the terms of existing bilateral Israeli-Palestinian agreements specifically affirm Israel’s right to prevent or limit entry of persons into Israel from the West Bank and Gaza for security and safety considerations. Just one of many examples of double standards regarding Israel.”
“This Council has never cared for the human rights of Israelis; This Council has lost its bearings; This Council needs a moral compass; This Council has an Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder regarding Israel; This Council has not, does not and will not contribute to peace in our region,” the Israeli envoy charged.
“Think about it, and call me if you change your minds,” Manor concluded, leaving his phone number for the council.
The UNHRC is infamously biased against Israel, with nearly half of its resolutions focused solely on Israel while completely ignoring war, strife and atrocities committed around the globe.
Israeli leaders and officials have cited the UNHRC for its “obsessive hostility” toward Israel and its “one-sided mandate.”
