If animal rights organization PETA is truly seeking moral clarity, it must speak up clearly! We must demand that PETA publicly condemn Hamas’ animal abuse directly and without reserve!
Hamas displayed cruel animal abuse this week when it harnessed incendiary materials to a falcon and sent it toward Israel, marking a new development in the terror group’s arson attacks against Israel’s south.
An Israel Nature and Parks Authority (INPA) ranger discovered the bird on Monday near Nahal Habesor with the flammable materials tied to its tail. The bird was dead, after apparently igniting a fire nearby.
This was the latest development in the current wave of Hamas terror which began three month ago, during which it has launched incendiary kites and balloons towards Israeli territory and ignited over 1,000 fires, destroying 82,000 acres of forest and agricultural land.
The falcon was not the only animal abused by Hamas in recent months. The torched areas included nature reserves, where many animals were burned to death. Others have lost their natural habitat.
Ingrid Newkirk, president of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals’ (PETA), apparently in response to demands by lay people to condemn this brutality against defenseless creatures, issued only lukewarm and broad criticism, stating that “as human beings, all of us at PETA are concerned about human civilians, including children, and other living beings caught in the line of fire of any conflict.”
PETA’s statement made no mention of the Hamas terror group and its abuse of animals for destructive purposes.
If PETA truly stands for animal rights, it must specifically condemn Hamas for using them as weapons of war.
We must insist that PETA publicly condemn Hamas’ animal abuse explicitly and without reserve!
