The Canadian governor-general headed a mission this week to Israel, where he and Netanyahu signed a cooperation agreement in industry, science and university research scholarships.

Mitacs, a Canadian not-for-profit organization that funds research and training, and Israel’s Ministry of Science, Technology and Space, signed a declaration aimed at the promotion of research, consultation, exchange of experiences, capacity building, and training in research projects between Canadian and Israeli universities.

The letter of intent was signed by Alejandro Adem, CEO and Scientific Director of Mitacs, and Science, Technology and Space Minister Ofir Akunis, in the presence of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and David Johnston, the first Canadian governor-general to visit Israel in that capacity. The efforts will promote Canada and Israel as top destinations for research opportunities and showcase research expertise in each country.

Watch the signing of the agreement and enjoy the friendly banter between Netanyahu and Johnston.
