History of Yom Ha'Atsmaut Israel Independence Day

Take a brief journey through the history of Israel’s Independence Day and discover how the dream of Israel became a reality!

What seemed to be the impossible for so many years, became reality when Israel gained independence in 1948, marking the official return of the Jewish people to the Holy Land. That doesn’t mean there wasn’t a Jewish presence in the land prior to 1948. The Jewish people have maintained a connection to the land ever since the Second Jewish Temple was destroyed nearly 2000 years ago. Despite the most difficult hardships, Jews remained and unfortunately many were killed, in their quest to ensure a permanent presence in the Holy Land.

And so it is, on Yom Ha’atzmaut, that the people of Israel dance and celebrate, commemorating Independence Day. For those who would like more information on what Israelis are celebrating, this video provides a concise explanation.
