Former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt, in a Twitter post, expressed surprise that Israel offered humanitarian assistance in the wake of the Beirut explosion on Tuesday.

Israel in fact has a long record of sending humanitarian aid to countries around the world in the wake of disaster, often being the first to arrive at the scene.

Indeed, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the Knesset on Wednesday: “We are prepared to extend humanitarian aid to Lebanon, as human beings to human beings…

“This is our way. We differentiate between regimes and people who are under their rule,” he said.
