A Jordanian cleric clarified his earlier ruling against killing Jews, explaining that Jihad is a binding duty, but it must be done at the right time in order to succeed.
Asked to clarify his fatwa (Islamic ruling) that murdering Jews is not always permissible, Jordanian Sheikh Ali Hassan Al-Halabi stressed that killing “the evil…brothers of apes and pigs” is a “binding and mandatory duty.”
Comments that he made last February online allegedly confused many of his followers, as he spoke against the random murder of Jews. In a new video that went online on Tuesday – translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) – the Muslim leader clarified that Jihad (Holy War) is indeed “a binding and mandatory duty,” but that it must be done properly and at the right time in order to succeed.
Although his original fatwa was broadcast “almost a year ago, it began spreading like wildfire a few days ago,” he said in the more recent video, explaining the need for clarification.

Regarding the murdering of IDF soldiers, he asked, rhetorically: “How can we think that this leads to victory?”
“The Jews are occupiers and plunderers,” he stated. However, “the conflict with the Jews cannot just be won by those defenseless [Palestinians]. No matter how hard they try, they will not succeed.”
Jihad against the Jews is “incumbent on any Muslim country and upon any Muslim who accepts Allah as the Lord and Islam as his religion,” Al-Halabi declared. “But there is a way of doing things….
“What we should really do is save our strength…for the right moment that is bound to come.”
The time is not right, he said, because “Israel has America’s back” and the Muslim people are divided.
“We must prepare to uproot this enemy…from the brothers of pigs and apes,” he continued. “But it cannot be done this way… It will only harm us.”
“We must be united,” he concluded.
