BDS has adopted patterns of action employed by Nazi Germany, the CDU stated while denouncing the anti-Israel movement.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party announced Wednesday that it passed a resolution declaring the anti-Israel BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) movement anti-Semitic.

“Who today under the flag of the BDS movement calls to boycott Israeli goods and services speaks the same language in which people were called to not buy from Jews. That is nothing other than coarse antisemitism,” said the CDU statement, the Jerusalem Post reported.

Additionally, the CDU compared BDS activists to the Nazis, who launched boycotts against Jews during the 1930s as a run-up to the Holocaust. BDS dresses up anti-Semitism in “new clothes of the 21st century,” the party said, referring to anti-Zionism.

More and more countries and political organizations are adopting a strong anti-BDS stance.

Most recently, Ontario became the first Canadian province to denounce BDS when is adopted a motion last Thursday rejecting “the differential treatment of Israel, including the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement.”

“BDS is failing. It will continue to fail. It has failed,” said MPP Gila Martow, who introduced the motion. “BDS is the negative way of doing things.”

The US Congress has also passed a similar resolution, as have 16 US states.

Other European countries have adopted similar resolutions.

The BDS movement promotes financial, academic and cultural boycotts against Israel, ostensibly as a nonviolent struggle against the so-called “Israeli occupation.”

Critics say its activities are a modern form of anti-Semitism and that its true objective is to destroy the State of Israel.
