A Palestinian sniper shot and wounded an IDF soldier near the Cave of the Patriarchs on Sunday.

A Palestinian shot and wounded a female IDF soldier near the Cave of the Patriarchs in the city of Hebron Sunday afternoon.

An Israeli medical team evacuated the victim, 19, to Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem. She had moderate to serious wounds to her lower body.

Initial reports indicate that the terrorist was a sniper perched in the adjacent Palestinian neighborhood of Abu-Sneina, which overlooks the site of the shooting.

IDF forces have launched a search for the terrorist.

Hebron has been the site of numerous Palestinian terrorist attacks, which have centered on the Cave of the Patriarchs.

Responding to the death of Genadi Kaufman, who was stabbed three weeks ago in Hebron and succumbed to his wounds on Wednesday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that “I say to all those who would uproot us from the Cave of the Patriarchs – except for a few years in the previous century, we have been there for almost 4,000 years and we will stay there forever. You cannot defeat us.”

This incident was the latest in a long series of almost daily Palestinian terror attacks that have plagued Israelis over the course of the past three months, claiming the lives of 26 victims and wounding some 285.
