Hamas has apparently restored its terror tunnel and rocket-launching capabilities since Operation Protective Edge.

The Hamas terror group has recovered its operational power to the levels it had reached prior to Operation Protective Edge in the summer of 2014, a senior defense official warned Tuesday.

Israel’s Channel 2 quoted the official as saying that Hamas has restored its terror tunnel and rocket-launching capabilities.

The IDF decimated Hamas’ forces during the counter-terror operation. Israel exposed and destroyed many terror tunnels, but Hamas has since been working diligently to rebuild its military capabilities, often at the expense of the residents of Gaza.

A large part of Hamas’ missile stockpile is from domestically produced projectiles made in Gaza, and the materials used to make the weapons, allegedly for humanitarian purposes, come through the Rafah border crossing with Egypt.

Israel estimates that Hamas is not seeking a confrontation with Israel in the near future, but is preparing to attack at some point.

Separately, during a tour of Israeli communities near the border with Gaza Strip on Tuesday, Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman warned about Hamas’ threat.

“Hamas and the rest of the groups in Gaza have not abandoned their desire to destroy Israel and to harm us,” he stated.
